As the Nov. 6 Bexley mayoral election gets closer, many students on and off campus are active in political campaigns.

"It is important for students to be involved in politics so they can learn the ins and outs of the campaign process and the issues that involve their community," Demetri Pazarentzos, junior, said.

The Fuller Society, which presents global and local issues to Capital University, hosted a Bexley Mayoral Forum Oct. 4.

All eight candidates presented their platforms in regards to both the Bexley and Capital communities. A question and answer session followed.

Capital University's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter has teamed up with 24-year-old Independent candidate Travis Irvine.

"I have really enjoyed working with Travis Irvine for his campaign," Catherine Gabriele, senior, publicity chair for PRSSA, said. "If it weren't for my involvement, I would not be as aware as I am of the importance and responsibility of the Mayor of Bexley."

PRSSA members are helping Irvine by placing banners, posters and flyers around campus to promote his cause. They make sure that students, faculty and staff are notified about when Irvine will be on campus for meet-and-greet. They also passed out registration forms to non-registered voters in Bexley to get more students and members of the community involved in this election.

"Being involved with a campaign is great experience," Dana Loyer, senior and college liaison for PRSSA, said. "It is a good idea to have a general sense of what politics are about."

The College Democrats and College Republicans are in support of candidates from each of their parties and have information on them.
