In his January 31 letter, "Professor questions UNICCO Union," Robert Lawson questions the justice of requiring all workers in a company to join a union when a majority of workers vote for it.
It's the social logic of requiring all drivers to stop at red lights or people without children in school to pay taxes for schools. We have interests beyond our individual ones.
Many forms of social good require everyone's participation to be effective. All workers benefit from the collective bargaining and grievance procedures provided by the union just as all drivers benefit from stop lights.
