I was baby-sitting last weekend for three adorable, but hungry, little boys. Their parents were out of town for the whole weekend, so of course I let them have ice cream for lunch. They had been waiting for Graeter's to reopen for two months, and couldn't wait to see all the changes.

They were excited in the way only people under the age of five can be-they made up a song about ice cream as we walked through Bexley to taste and see the new Graeter's.
The boys noticed a long list of new things at Graeter's; the door handles were shaped like ice cream scoops!

There were also new, shorter water fountains they could reach by themselves, they had more room to run around in the bathrooms (it was actually just made handicapped-accessible) and they especially liked the cool new ceiling fans, which run on a conveyer belt.

While the changes satisfied the little guys, I had 15 years of ice cream eating experience on them, and I was unimpressed by the changes. The store was closed for more than seven weeks and all we get are new ceiling fans?

The furniture and the floors were exactly the same and nothing seemed different on the menu or the way the ice cream was served. I was hoping for the entire inside to look completely different.

Maybe I've watched too many home-makeover shows, but it really seems like you can get a lot done in seven weeks.

The one big improvement was that the place seems less cluttered now. The menus written on white boards and cardboard sheets were replaced by red and white, printed menus. The counter tops, kitchen utensils and gadgets seemed new, clean and somewhat organized, and the overall store looked like it just got a really good scrubbing.

I love Graeter's ice cream; it's been a staple in my diet, and a drain on my wallet for the last four years I've been in Bexley.
Nothing cheers me up more after a tough test than a double scoop of Black Raspberry Chip on a chocolate-covered waffle cone.

I am as excited as the kindergartners that my favorite ice cream shop is open again, but I'm just a little sad that I was deprived of my favorite dessert for two months for what amounted to a weekend's worth of spring cleaning.

Connie,

First of all, thank you for the kind words and your patronage for the last four years. We work very hard to create the absolute best ice cream and we are very proud of our outstanding team in our Bexley store. (Continued…)

This sounds like a great program and a great way to improve education in our schools!
