Get to know a "Laxer" Joey Pasternak, team secretary and captain

Issue date: 11/5/09 Section: Sports
Q: Had you ever played before this year?
A: Yes. Played in high school and middle school.
Q: How did you become team secretary and captain?
A: There started off being three candidates. Voting came around and they didn't wanna do it, so I said ok, I'll do it.
Q: What does secretary do, exactly?
A: I manage the Facebook group, do whatever coach tells me to do...and stuff.
Q: What's your favorite part about lacrosse?
A: All through high school it's been all for the team, you can't do this, you have to be the best, but here things are more....lax (pun intended).
Q: What's your least favorite?
A: I don't like running.
Q: Is that a problem in a sport that requires running?
A: Yes, it definitely is.
Q: Can I still join the team?
A: Yeah, everyone is welcome to join. There's no deadline.
Q: Will you teach me to play?
A: Of course. There's a lot of new people that are just starting; anyone can come out and play and learn.
Q: How will the team do this year, in your opinion?
A: I think we can do very well this year. As a relatively new program. Our first scrimmage was against ODU, who have been around for around 7 years, and we held our own against them, so I predict us doing very well.
Q: Would you say that you "play lacrosse" or are you a "laxer"?
A: I would consider myself a "lax god." I'm not the ultimate lax bro yet, though, because I don't wear a pinnie and pastels everywhere. Plus, I'm still working on my flow.
