The event was open to all students, and sent out invites to various student organizations, including the Greek organizations on campus and Capital's Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC).
Maddie Hoff, Catholic Representative of Student Government, organized the event. "I did this my senior year of high school when my dad was serving in Kosovo. We made rosaries to send to Kosovo and Iraq. I also got my middle school involved, and this is a continuation of that."
Hoff says making rosaries to send overseas has a special meaning to her, because she knows what it is like to have someone close be overseas. To her, it is important because she feels like the community might forget there are people over there serving.
Hoff's siblings Moira and Max also participated in the event, along with several other Capital students. "I think this is a really cool thing we're doing. I think it will mean a lot to the soldiers receiving these rosaries. God bless America," Max, senior, said.
Students worked for a couple hours hand-making knotted rosaries. They will be sent to soldiers currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as a token of appreciation.
"The military is the backbone of our country. The soldiers need all the prayers they can get," Maddie said.
