Originally set for a completion date of spring semester 2005, construction on campus has been moved back to fall 2005.

The delay in construction of the new facility, part of a 20 to 30 year campus renovation, was caused by two major unforeseeable problems.

The first came from Bexley's Main Street Redevelopment Commission (MSRC) taking too long to approve the plans than many had expected. Once it was approved by the MSRC, Bexley supported the project and assisted Capital whenever possible.

The weather also caused a delay. The rain and freezing temperatures caused an uncontrollable delay in moving the project forward.

Rex Fisk, assistant director of building and grounds, said, "Each of the rooms in the dorm will be singles. That's what students want."

Once it is finished, the three-story, brick-veneer finished building will house up to 95 students.

In the next few months students can expect to see the completion of basement walls and foundations for the new dorm.

After the new dorm is completed, there will be a turn lane added at the intersection of addition will assist in traffic flow around campus and lead to the closure of Mound Street.

Mound Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from College to Pleasant Ridge starting summer 2005.

The next step is to start renovationts to SA. The plan is eventually turn SA into the administration building and demolish Yochum Hall.

In the following years, more land will be bought around the campus area to provide the appropriate space for seven new dorms.

"The new housing project will be a first-class residence facility not matchind by anything in the area," project coordinator Jeff Bellinski, of Eduplex, said.

"I'm glad that they are finally doing something about it. We make do with what we have, but the dorms are really kinda gross," Kive Kraft, junior said. "It is long overdue!"
